PRACTICE STAFF

The Practice Nursing Team

Kate Lewis - Nurse Team Leader RGN DipHE BSc Hons DN
Louise Watts RGN Dip
Nicola Leaman - Health Care Assistant

The practice nurses can often be seen instead of taking up a doctor's appointment. They can be seen by appointment for the following:
  • Clinics to monitor diabetes, asthma and blood pressure
  • Family planning advice and repeat pill prescriptions
  • Cervical smears
  • Menopause advice and HRT repeat prescriptions
  • Review of expired repeat prescriptions
  • Travel advice and immunisations
  • Dressings and removal of stitches
  • Ear syringing
  • Well man, well woman and health checks for the over 75s.
You may be asked the reason for booking an appointment with the nurse. This is so that you can see the most appropriate person and the correct length of time can be allocated to you.

Practice Management

The practice manager, Linda Bradley, and her assistant Julie Ransey help the team to function smoothly. If you have any queries about administrative or non-medical matters, please contact either of them.

The Medical Secretarial Team

Wilda Silverwood - Senior Secretary
Gina Garlic - Secretary

The secretaries organise the doctors' letters, referrals and play a key role in the Choose and Book referral system.

The Administration Team

Emma Garcia-Wells Clinical Administrator
Carol Quinn and Janis Peachey Receptionists/Prescription Administrators

Our administration team processes all forms and registration papers and keeps our computer records accurate. Should you have any queries regarding these matters, please speak to them.

The Reception Team

Julie Davies, Carol Quinn, Janis Peachey and Debra Fermi

The receptionists are here to help you. They are trained to do a difficult job well. If you are kept waiting or seem to be asked one or two irritating questions, remember that they are only carrying out our policy which is aimed at helping the practice to run smoothly. They have to judge the urgency of requests, so please try to give the information they require. They have been asked to do this and are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as doctors and nurses.

ATTACHED STAFF

The Health Visitor

The health visitor is available at Amity Grove Clinic on Tuesdays 1.30 - 3.30pm. She is available to help with health matters for the under fives, such as feeding difficulties and all aspects of child development. She is contactable on 020 8946 9607.

The Community Midwife

We have a community midwife attached to the surgery. She is here to help expectant mothers with all aspects of health care during pregnancy and to look after mother and baby in the early postnatal period. She is available at the surgery during the Wednesday morning antenatal clinics.

District Nurses

The district nurses specialise in assessing and providing nursing care to those who are unable to attend the surgery. They will give support and advice to patients and carers and will liaise with other agencies on your behalf. They visit the surgery every day. Messages can be left at Amity Grove Clinic on 020 8946 9607 during office hours or on 020 8540 8892 evenings and weekends.

Intermediate Care

Your doctor may refer you to the Intermediate Care team for assessment if you require a lot of care to manage at home. We have an Intermediate Care nurse attached to the practice. The aim of this service is to help people stay at home and reduce the need for admissions to hospital. A social worker is also attached to this service.

Domiciliary Physiotherapy

Our domiciliary physiotherapist, Christine Hall, is available through your GP for those people who require assessment, therapy and advice in their own homes. Physiotherapy is also available with GP referrals at the Nelson Hospital with a named physiotherapist.

Teaching

We are a teaching practice and from time to time we will have medical students in attendance. Patients will always be notified of the students’ presence and we ask that you inform reception if you would prefer to be seen without the student in the room.

We may also have a registrar assigned to us from time to time. Registrars are fully qualified doctors who are gaining skills within general practice.
